The new 27-foot AMBER Alert sign that was installed at Valley View and Tiffany is one of two that were installed in Garden Grove. These signs will be displaying AMBER Alerts as well as city announcements and community events.
According to Dan Candelaria of Garden Grove’s City Traffic Engineering Division, The project cost $2.5 million. This tab includes the two signs costing nearly $250,000 each, 11 cameras, 5 miles of fiber optics and conduit, and various field elements required to make the signs work and transmit the information.
The $2.5 million bill was covered by several sources. A $1.2 million grant under the SAFETEA-LU (Safe, accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act) and $800,000 from the office of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D) covered most of the cost with the rest coming from state and federal resources.
Approximately 27,000 vehicles travel northbound on Valley View daily, making that the effective number of vehicles the south-facing sign will reach. The design was approved by city council.
